PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Public Administration program leads to a Master’s of Public Administration (MPA) degree. This program is designed to be a part-time program for working adults. The students are often employed in community service agencies, law enforcement, and education. All classes meet for full days on weekends, with each course consisting of five class sessions. Students will join cohorts that meet on Saturdays and remain with their cohort for the duration of the program.

The Master’s in Public Administration is a 42 credit program in which courses are designed to relate to the needs of those intending to serve in administrative and managerial roles. Students in this program have worked for agencies such as; NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, NYC Administration of Child Services, NYC Department of Corrections and the Metropolitan Transit Authority.  Students who follow the sequence outlined below can expect to complete the program in 18 months.

Application Requirements and Procedures

The following items are required as part of the application process:

  1. Completed Alfred University Application for Graduate Study – Apply online
  2. A $60 application fee (Click here to pay)
  3. Two letters of recommendation from individuals (supervisors, previous professors) who can attest to your qualifications for graduate study
  4. Cover letter / Resume
  5. Official undergraduate and graduate transcripts (if applicable)
  6. Interview with a faculty member
  7. A writing sample provided at the time of the interview
  8. Personal Statement (You must submit a written statement describing career goals and reasons for the chosen field of graduate study. Outline topics of special interest and also include relevant experience such as internships, co-ops, or other professional activities.)

Application Deadline
The Master’s Degree in Public Administration is a cohort program which starts each October.  Please contact the CITE office at 718-923-9333 for application deadlines.

Financial Information
The fee for each three-credit course is $1,245. On campus courses cost $1,245. The complete cost for the 42-credit Master’s Degree is $14,940. Financial aid is available through Alfred University. A $200 enrollment deposit is due upon acceptance into the program. This deposit is refundable upon successful completion of the program.

Convenient Schedule
Courses are offered on Saturdays during the school year. This program does require one trip to Alfred in the summer. Course location and dates are subject to change. Click here for downloadable version of schedule.

Credit Transfers
Alfred University may accept up to six graduate credits for transfer. Students who are interested in transferring credits into the program should submit a request, along with official transcripts and course descriptions, to Alfred University.
